The Prince of Wales Hotel is almost at the end of a $700,000 renovation which has seen about seven rooms replaced with a classy function centre.
Venue manager Brad Tanis said the new facility was expected to accommodate at least 150 people, framed by a spacious balcony facing Stephen Street.
“It’s a great little spot for functions – we have created a classy space complete with chandeliers but have still maintained the heritage style of the pub,” Mr Tanis said.
The Prince of Wales Hotel was built in 1882 and was owned by the Swan Brewery from 1943 to 1978 as one of 120 premises acquired to secure a market for their product.
Mitch Thorn took over the popular pub about 17 years ago.
Renovations have been ongoing for the past three months and Mr Tanis said they were expected to be complete at the start of December, with bookings coming in already.
“We felt there was a lack of good function centres around and [owner] Mitch said let’s give it a crack,” Mr Tanis said.
“It adds another dimension to the pub – we can still have live entertainment downstairs while we are hosting a wedding upstairs.”
