Southern Ports Authority Port of Bunbury general manager Darren Lambourn said the drill was an important part of ongoing training to ensure the port was prepared in the event of disaster.
“This exercise involved deploying three reels of polyline containment boom to address a hypothetical oil spill from a ship at berth five, which is a general purpose berth,” Mr Lambourn said.
“These booms can be connected together to accommodate spills of various sizes.”
Experts from the Maritime Environmental Emergency Response Team then helped our team deploy a Nofi-V Boom, which is designed for rapid response oil clean-up.”
The exercise is one of eight the Maritime Environmental Emergency Response team has undertaken in the past year.
